Advantages and Disadvantages of PET Injection Molding

PET injection molding offers significant advantages in strength, clarity, and recyclability, but it comes with challenges such as the need for precise moisture control and higher processing temperatures.

Advantages

  • Excellent mechanical properties for long-lasting parts.
  • Resistant to acids, solvents, and other chemicals.
  • Can produce transparent parts.
  • Withstands higher service temperatures.
  • Maintains accurate shapes and tight tolerances.
  • Eco-friendly and widely recyclable.

Disadvantages

  • Requires more energy and longer processing times.
  • Needs proper drying before molding.
  • Can become brittle in cold environments.
  • Less durable under heavy impacts.
  • High temperatures can increase mold wear.

What is PET?

PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate), also known as thermoplastic polyester, is a versatile thermoplastic polymer with excellent physical properties such as high strength, good chemical resistance, and transparency. PET typically comes in small pellet form. During the injection molding process, the pellets are heated to a molten state, then injected into the mold cavity, where they cool and solidify to form the final product. This process makes PET ideal for mass production of parts with fine and complex shapes.

BOYI offers a variety of PET materials, including PET Black, PET White, PET+GF30 Black, and PET+GF30 White, to meet your specific injection molding needs.
