What is Insert Molding?

Insert molding is an injection molding process where one or multiple pre-made inserts or metal components are placed into a mold and plastic material is injected around them during the molding process. This technique integrates inserts or metal parts directly into plastic components, creating a unified single-piece part by combining plastic with other materials.

Inserts typically consist of metal, plastic, or other materials. They are placed into the injection mold, and molten plastic is injected around these inserts, securing them within the final plastic part. This process allows the integration of inserts with plastic through methods such as mechanical bonding, chemical adhesion, or fusion between melted plastic and the insert’s surface.

About Insert Molding FAQ

No minimum order quantity. Whether it is a single part or thousands of parts, it helps to quickly transfer insert molding parts from design to production.

Yes, we offer prototyping services, where prototypes can be made prior to mass production of insert molding. Prototypes help validate designs, review and improve, reduce late-stage risk, and can be used for market testing and user feedback.

Insert molding is particularly suitable for parts with threaded holes. It can also help you manufacture better wheels, pulleys, fan blades, and other similar parts. If insert molding is not suitable for you, you can also try vacuum casting or 3D printing.
